Escape Goat Island
Inspired by 1930s screwball comedies, Escape Goat Island follows Pru Marvin and her best friend Cindy Crawfish, as they navigate their lives on the impoverished, isolated Goat Island in New Hampshire. Though the musical is set in the present, the culture and economy of Goat Island is stuck in 1935 due to the Great Goat Massacre, a greedy scheme committed by Cindy’s great-grandfather.
Pru, the wife of Mayor Marvin Marvin, frustrated by his lack of attention to her and his hyper-fixation on goats, hires an assassination company to take him out. Meanwhile, in his attempt to win re-election, the Mayor is challenged by the arrival of Darlene, an aspirational politician from New Jersey determined to deforest the island and build wind turbines. Cindy, desperate to be welcomed back in the community, decides to assist Mayor Marvin’s campaign, fracturing her relationship with Pru. When bumbling twin assassins (Klay and Gay) arrive on the island, Pru, delirious with sexual frustration and unable to tell the twins apart, ferociously pursues both of them and sets in motion a series of screwy events that change the island forever.
